Case IH 2285 (525.19) - DEC – DEC: CAN 2 - TransmReqGear Error

GearLeverRequestedGear CAN signal (TC1 CAN message) is Error. The transmission control system is receiving an implausible, erroneous, or missing gear selection request from the gear selection switch or multi-function handle over the CAN 2 data link.

   Retrieve all fault codes using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or instrument cluster display, looking for related codes like SPN 525 FMI 9 or FMI 7

   Inspect the CAN 2 data link wiring harness between the gear selector (multi-function handle) and the DEC module for physical damage, corrosion, or chafing

   Check the connectors at the gear selector module and the DEC for loose pins, moisture, or poor contact

   Verify the DEC/TECU is receiving proper ignition voltage (typically between 7 and 32 volts) and has a solid ground connection

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor key switch and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during testing.

   Access the Modules

   Locate the gear selection switch/multi-function handle in the cab armrest and the DEC module.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Disconnect the wiring harness at both ends. Visually inspect the pins for corrosion or push-back. Clean the contacts with an approved electrical contact cleaner.

   Test CAN Bus Resistance

   Measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins on the harness. A healthy CAN bus with two terminating resistors should read approximately 60 ohms. If it reads 120 ohms, one resistor or a wire is broken; if it reads 0 ohms, there is a short.

   Test for Shorts

   Check for continuity to ground and continuity to power on the CAN 2 data link wires. Repair or replace the wiring harness if a short or open circuit is found.

   Component Replacement

   If the wiring harness tests perfectly, the fault is likely internal to the gear selector switch/multi-function handle sending the implausible signal, or the DEC module itself. Replace the faulty component.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect all components, reconnect the battery, and use the EST or keypad (holding INCR/DECR keys depending on software version) to clear the inactive codes. Test drive the tractor to ensure the requested gear signal is accurately recognized.
