2295-04 - UCM

Case IH 2295-04 - UCM – UCM (Universal Control Module): Front pilot head #2 reporting supply voltage low

Issue description

The Universal Control Module (UCM) is detecting that the electrical supply voltage reaching the electronic pilot head (the actuator) for the #2 front hydraulic remote valve (EHR) has dropped below the acceptable operational threshold. This typically indicates a wiring harness issue (such as a short to ground, high resistance, or corroded connector) or an internal short/failure within the pilot head itself.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum AFS Connect 180
  • Magnum AFS Connect 200
  • Magnum AFS Connect 220
  • Magnum AFS Connect 240
  • Magnum AFS Connect 250
  • Magnum AFS Connect 280
  • Magnum AFS Connect 310
  • Magnum AFS Connect 340
  • Magnum AFS Connect 380
  • Steiger AFS Connect
  • Puma

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the #2 front hydraulic remote valve wiring harness and electrical connector for chafed wires, moisture ingress, or corroded pins.

  2. With the key ON, use a multimeter to verify the supply voltage at the harness connector for the #2 pilot head. Compare this reading to the voltage at the #1 or #3 front remote pilot heads to confirm if the voltage drop is in the harness.

  3. Perform a component swap test to isolate the fault: swap the #2 pilot head with the #1 or #3 pilot head. If the fault code changes to follow the new location (e.g., 2283-04 or 2307-04), the pilot head is internally faulty. If 2295-04 remains, the issue lies within the tractor's wiring harness or the UCM itself.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize

Shut off the engine and actuate the remote levers to ensure all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the circuits before beginning work.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical CAN/power connector from the #2 front remote pilot head.

  3. Removal

Remove the mounting screws (typically M5 x 20mm hex socket screws) securing the pilot head to the main valve body.

  4. Clean & Inspect

Lift the pilot head off the valve. Inspect and clean the mating surface. Check the small 100-150 micron filter screen located beneath the pilot head; replace it if it is clogged or damaged.

  5. Installation

Install the new pilot head assembly onto the valve body and torque the mounting screws to spec. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  6. Calibration

A new pilot head will not work immediately upon installation. The tractor's UCM must be told to recognize the new valve's CAN address. You must enter the tractor's diagnostic menu (often referred to as the 'H menu' or 'HK menu' on the display) or use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to reassign and calibrate the remote valves.
