2295-12 - UCM

Case IH 2295-12 - UCM – UCM: Front pilot head #2 - Low supply voltage

Issue description

Indicates an issue with the Front pilot head #2, specifically a low supply voltage report. The FMI 12 identifier points to a bad intelligent device or an internal controller fault, meaning the component itself is recognizing an internal voltage failure or hardware malfunction.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Steiger AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Check UCM power and ground connections (unswitched power, switched power, and ground) to verify baseline voltage to the module

  2. Check CAN communication via diagnostic connectors (CAN 1/ISOBUS and CAN 3) and look for related communication codes (e.g., 2295-04 or 2295-02)

  3. Measure the supply voltage directly at the Front pilot head #2 connector to determine if the low voltage is caused by a wiring harness drop/short or an internal failure

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic connector (Connector 1 or Connector 2, depending on the CAN bus being accessed).

  2. Read fault codes

Read and record all active and inactive fault codes in the UCM to confirm if 2295-12 is isolated or accompanied by CAN communication faults.

  3. Inspect wiring harness

Inspect the wiring harness routing between the UCM and the front pilot head #2. Look for pinched wires, chafing, corrosion at the pins, or open circuits.

  4. Repair wiring or replace component

Repair any damaged wiring. If the wiring harness is intact and providing proper voltage to the pilot head connector, the front pilot head #2 has an internal fault and must be replaced.

  5. Configure new UCM

If the UCM itself is deemed faulty and replaced, use the EST to configure the new UCM/VCM (for example, configuring the steering pump size to 500 CC, which is standard for these models).

  6. Perform calibrations

Perform necessary system calibrations (such as the Wheel Angle Sensor calibration) via the EST after replacing any steering or control components.

  7. Clear codes and test

Clear the inactive fault codes and test the machine's operation to ensure the code does not return.
