Case IH 2296-02 - UCM – UCM: Loss of communication of the vehicle controller with the front pilot head #2

The tractor's control module has stopped receiving CAN bus messages from the electronic pilot head on the #2 front remote valve.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector (6-pin Deutsch or AMP) at the #2 front remote pilot head for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture.

   Unplug the #2 front pilot head to check for CAN bus isolation; if communication to other modules is restored, the pilot head has an internal short.

   Swap the #2 pilot head with the #1 front pilot head. If the fault code changes to indicate #1 (e.g., 2284-02), the pilot head is faulty. If it remains 2296-02, the issue is in the wiring or UCM.

   Ensure the valve is addressed correctly on the CAN network, as a lost address can cause a timeout error.

   Relieve hydraulic pressure

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and cycle the remote levers/buttons to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

   Locate valve

   Locate the front hydraulic valve stack and identify the #2 remote valve.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the #2 pilot head.

   Remove screws

   Remove the retaining screws securing the pilot head to the main valve body (slice).

   Remove pilot head

   Carefully remove the faulty pilot head, ensuring no dirt enters the hydraulic valve body.

   Install new pilot head

   Install the new pilot head assembly, ensuring the mechanical linkage and O-rings are properly aligned.

   Secure and reconnect

   Torque the retaining screws to OEM specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Calibrate valve

   Turn on the tractor, navigate to the EHR CAL (Electro-Hydraulic Remote Calibration) menu on the display. Select the #2 front valve and press the PROG key to initiate the calibration sequence.
