Case IH 23 – TMF (Transmission Controller / Armrest Controller) or ATC (Advanced Tractor Control) / CCH (Central Controller Hitch): Two draft pin sensors failed when configured for two draft pins.

Issue description

The tractor's controller is programmed to receive load/draft signals from two draft sensing pins (located on the rear hitch lower link arms), but it has lost communication or is receiving invalid/out-of-range signals from both sensors simultaneously.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the draft pin sensors located at the lower link arms of the rear 3-point hitch for obvious physical damage.

  2. Check the wiring harness leading to both draft pin sensors for pinched wires, chafing, or breaks.

  3. Disconnect the sensor connectors and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.

  4. Verify that the sensors are receiving the correct reference voltage from the controller and check the signal return voltage. Heavily suspect a shared wiring issue (like a common ground or shared reference voltage wire break) since both sensors failed simultaneously.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Wiring Issues

    If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire or corroded connector in the hitch harness, repair or replace the affected harness section.

  2. Replace Faulty Sensors

    If the wiring is intact but the sensors test out of specification, remove the faulty draft sensing pins from the lower link arms and install the new replacement pins.

  3. Alternative Bypass (Older Magnums)

    If the tractor is an older Magnum and the draft sensing function is no longer needed or the repair is cost-prohibitive, you can install a 'Draft Load Sensing Pin Elimination Kit.' This bypasses the sensors entirely, disables the draft sensing function, and prevents the controller from throwing the fault code.

  4. Clear Codes and Calibrate

    After replacing the sensors or installing a bypass kit, clear the error codes from the controller. You may need to perform a hydraulic lift autocalibration to ensure the hitch operates normally.
