Case IH 2302 – Transmission Control Module: 19th gear clutch dump solenoid open circuit or short to ground

The transmission controller has detected a break in the electrical circuit (open) or a short circuit to the chassis ground on the circuit that controls the dump solenoid for the 19th gear clutch.

   Inspect the transmission extension harness and main harness connections for any loose, corroded, or disconnected pins.

   Use a multimeter to check the wiring between the Transmission Control Module and the 19th gear clutch dump solenoid for continuity (open circuit) and continuity to ground (short to ground).

   Measure the resistance of the 19th gear clutch dump solenoid coil itself to ensure it is not internally open (infinite resistance/OL).

   Verify that the battery voltage and system grounds are secure, as voltage drops can sometimes trigger false solenoid codes.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the transmission control valve block (typically located on the side of the transmission housing or under the cab, depending on the specific model) and identify the 19th gear clutch dump solenoid.

   Disconnect

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid, checking again for any signs of oil intrusion or pin damage.

   Removal

   Remove the retaining hardware (bolts or clips) securing the solenoid to the valve block and carefully pull the solenoid out of the transmission housing. Have a catch pan ready as a small amount of transmission fluid may leak.

   Installation

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid, insert the new solenoid into the valve block, and tighten the retaining hardware to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reconnect

   Reconnect the electrical connector and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Access the tractor's diagnostic menu (e.g., H-Menu) or use an electronic service tool to clear the stored 2302 fault code.

   Calibration

   Perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure to ensure the new solenoid operates smoothly and the transmission shifts correctly.
