Case IH 2326 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Engine torque/RPM sensor swapped with either mid or output speed sensors
Issue description
This is a logic error detected by the system. The controller is receiving a signal on the engine torque/RPM sensor circuit that matches the expected profile of the transmission mid-speed or output-speed sensor (or vice versa). This almost always means the electrical connectors for these sensors were accidentally plugged into the wrong sensors during recent maintenance, or there is a severe wiring harness short crossing the signal wires.

Check the cause
Check maintenance history to determine if the tractor recently had transmission work, a cab removal, or engine-to-transmission split (code is overwhelmingly caused by human error during reassembly).
Visually inspect the Engine Torque/RPM sensor, Transmission Mid-Speed sensor, and Transmission Output Speed sensor to see if the wiring harness connectors are physically stretched or crossed.
Consult the specific tractor's wiring schematic to verify that the wire colors going into the Engine Torque/RPM sensor match the factory pinout and haven't been swapped with the Mid or Output speed sensor connectors.
Perform a harness continuity test on the transmission wiring harness to check for chafing, melting, or pinch points that could cause the signal wires to short together.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate Sensors
Access the side of the transmission housing. Locate the three primary speed sensors: Engine Torque/Input RPM, Mid-Speed, and Output RPM.
Swap Connectors
If the diagnostic checks confirm the connectors were swapped, unplug the incorrectly routed connectors and plug them into their designated sensors based on the OEM wire color codes.
Inspect Sensors
If the wiring is correct but the code persists, one of the sensors may be internally shorted or failing. Remove the sensor (usually held by a single bolt) and inspect the magnetic tip for severe metal debris, which can distort signals. Replace if damaged.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Use the tractor's H-Menu (On-Board Diagnostics) or a diagnostic service tool (like the CNH EST) to clear the stored 2326 fault code.
Recalibrate
Perform a transmission clutch and speed sensor calibration procedure to ensure the TCU relearns the correct engagement parameters.
