2327

Case IH 2327 – Transmission (Trans) control module: No engine RPM

Issue description

The transmission controller is not receiving a valid engine speed signal, or the engine RPM sourced from the alternator is reading erratically/excessively high.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Magnum Series
  • Steiger / STX Series
  • Maxxum Series
  • Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the engine is actually running (if the key is ON but the engine is OFF, the transmission controller will naturally detect 'no engine RPM' and trigger this code normally)

  2. Check the alternator output at terminal 'W', as the transmission controller often sources the engine RPM signal directly from the alternator

  3. Inspect the transmission/engine speed sensor and its wiring harness for open circuits, shorts to ground, or physical damage

Repair steps

  1. Read cab display

Check the cab display to see if any engine RPM is being registered while the tractor is running. If no RPM is read, proceed to testing the alternator.

  2. Test alternator terminal 'W'

Use a multimeter to test the output at the 'W' terminal on the alternator. If the output is not OK, the alternator has failed and must be replaced. If the output is OK, proceed to the next step.

  3. Replace speed sensor

If the alternator is sending the correct signal but the transmission controller still registers code 2327, the speed sensor or its wiring harness has failed and should be replaced. Clear the codes and test-drive the tractor to ensure the transmission shifts correctly and the code does not return.
