Case IH 2343 (517967.05) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) or Central Control Unit (CCU): Clutch B solenoid – open circuit or short circuit to ground

The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit (an open circuit) or a short to ground in the wiring or the solenoid coil itself that controls Transmission Clutch B. When this fault is active, the transmission is typically disabled, or the specific clutch is locked out to prevent damage.

   Access the Solenoid: Remove the cab floor mat and access panel to reach the transmission valve block. Locate the Clutch B solenoid (often designated as Y24 or C162 depending on the model).

   Inspect the Harness: Disconnect the electrical connector to the Clutch B solenoid. Inspect the wiring harness between the transmission controller and the solenoid for chafing, breaks, or corroded connector pins.

   Test the Solenoid Coil: Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins. Check for an open circuit (infinite resistance) or a short circuit to ground. If the multimeter indicates a fault in the coil, the solenoid must be replaced.

   Check Voltage: Turn the key ON and verify if the controller is sending the correct reference voltage to the harness connector.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, apply the parking brake, and relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the transmission valve block to prevent dirt or debris from entering the hydraulic circuit when the valve is removed.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the Clutch B solenoid. Remove the retaining nut securing the solenoid coil, or unthread the entire solenoid cartridge from the valve block (depending on the specific valve design).

   Install the New Solenoid

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic oil. Thread the new cartridge into the valve block.

   Torque to Spec

   Tighten the cartridge and retaining nut to OEM specifications (general guidelines for these cartridge valves are approx. 18 ft-lbs for the cartridge and 5-6 ft-lbs for the retaining nut, but avoid over-torquing).

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector and reinstall the cab floor access panel.

   Calibration

   Start the tractor, check for hydraulic leaks, and clear the stored fault codes. You must perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure (often accessed via the tractor's H-Menu or display) to ensure the TCU learns the engagement point of the new Clutch B solenoid.
