Case IH 2344 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Clutch C solenoid - open circuit or short circuit to ground
Issue description
The control module has detected an electrical fault in the circuit responsible for operating the Clutch C solenoid valve. The fault is either an open circuit (such as a broken wire, disconnected harness, or burnt-out internal coil) or a short circuit to ground (such as a chafed wire touching the tractor chassis or an internal short within the solenoid).
Applies to these machines

- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Magnum Series
- Steiger Series
- Puma Series
- Maxxum / MXM / MXU Series
- Farmall Series
- Optum Series
- Vestrum Series
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Transmission Control Unit and the Clutch C solenoid valve for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins.
Use a multimeter to check the circuit. The Clutch C solenoid current should read 0 mA when the solenoid is commanded off, and approximately 750 mA when commanded on.
Swap the Clutch C solenoid coil with an adjacent, identical clutch solenoid (such as Clutch D). If the fault code changes to 2345, the solenoid coil is internally faulty. If the code remains 2344, the issue lies in the tractor's wiring harness or the transmission controller.
Repair steps
Park and secure machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Locate valve block
Locate the transmission control valve block on the transmission housing.
Identify solenoid
Identify the Clutch C solenoid valve.
Clean area
Thoroughly clean the area around the valve block to prevent dirt from contaminating the hydraulic system.
Disconnect harness
Disconnect the electrical harness from the Clutch C solenoid.
Remove faulty component
Remove the retaining hardware and extract the faulty solenoid valve or coil.
Install new component
Install the new solenoid, ensuring all O-rings are properly seated and lubricated with clean transmission fluid.
Reconnect and clear codes
Reconnect the electrical harness and clear the fault codes from the transmission module.
Calibrate transmission
You MUST perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure after replacing the solenoid to prevent the transmission controller from triggering secondary fault code 2364 - Clutch C uncalibrated.
