Case IH 2345 – Transmission Control Module (TCU / Trans): Clutch D solenoid open circuit or short circuit to ground
Issue description
The controller has detected an open circuit or short circuit to ground with the Clutch D solenoid (designated as the Clutch C3-4 solenoid on some transmission variants).
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Magnum
- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Magnum Series
- Steiger Series
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
- Farmall Series
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the Clutch D solenoid (connector C025 or X-301) for visible damage, corrosion, or loose pins.
Disconnect the Clutch D solenoid connector and measure the resistance across the solenoid coil terminals (Terminal A to Terminal B). A healthy solenoid should read between 6 Ohms and 8 Ohms; infinite resistance (OL) indicates an internally open coil.
Turn the key switch ON and measure the voltage at the harness-side connector to ensure the Transmission Controller is sending the proper voltage (+Ve) to the solenoid.
Test the circuit for a short to ground by measuring resistance between the power supply wire in the harness and the tractor chassis.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, apply the handbrake, lower all hydraulic equipment to the ground, place the shuttle lever in neutral, and turn off the engine and all electrical equipment.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing. Identify the Clutch D solenoid using your specific model's hydraulic/electrical schematic.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical connector from the Clutch D solenoid. Clean the surrounding area to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Remove the retaining fastener/nut and carefully pull the faulty solenoid valve or coil from the manifold block.
Installation
Install the new solenoid valve/coil and secure it with the retaining fastener. Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Clear Codes
Turn the key switch ON and use the tractor's diagnostic display (e.g., H-Menu) or a service tool to clear the stored fault codes.
Calibration
Start the tractor and bring the transmission fluid up to operating temperature. Perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure so the TCU can learn the fill times and engagement pressures for the new solenoid.
