Case IH 2350 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS, ATC, or CCM): Reverse clutch solenoid - open circuit or short circuit to ground

The transmission controller continuously monitors the current draw from the reverse clutch solenoid circuit. If the measured current draw falls below the minimum allowable limit, the controller determines that the circuit is either open, shorted to ground, or has lost its 12V power supply. When this code is active, the reverse mode is typically disabled by the controller to prevent transmission damage.

   Verify if the reverse clutch solenoid is being energized when the operator commands reverse gear.

   Trace the wiring harness from the Transmission Controller to the reverse clutch solenoid. Look for pinched wires, chafing against the transmission housing, or broken wires that would cause an open circuit.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the reverse clutch solenoid. Inspect for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the reverse clutch solenoid coil. An infinite reading indicates an internal open circuit (blown coil), while a reading of zero indicates a dead short to ground.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the transmission control valve block (usually mounted on the side or top of the transmission housing, depending on the model). Identify the specific solenoid assigned to the reverse clutch.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Carefully unplug the wiring harness connector from the reverse clutch solenoid.

   Remove the Faulty Component

   Depending on the valve block design, either remove the retaining nut holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem (if replacing just the coil) or remove the mounting bolts securing the entire solenoid valve assembly to the transmission block.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new solenoid coil over the valve stem and tighten the retaining nut, or bolt the new solenoid valve assembly into place. Ensure any O-rings are lubricated with clean transmission fluid before seating.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the key on and use the tractor's display monitor or a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive 2350 fault code.

   Functional Test

   Start the tractor. Shift to neutral, then to forward (high or low), and back to reverse. Verify that the reverse clutch engages smoothly and the fault code does not return.
