Case IH 2353 – Transmission Control Module (TCU / TRANS): Even Clutch Solenoid is shorted to +12 Volts, current sensed while driver is off
Issue description
The transmission controller is detecting electrical current on the Even Clutch Solenoid circuit when the controller has commanded the driver (the output signal) to be OFF. This indicates a short-circuit to a +12V power supply, either within the wiring harness or internally within the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness running from the transmission controller to the transmission powershift valve body for rubbed-through insulation, bare wires, or loose connections shorting to 12V.
Disconnect main connectors from the transmission controller and measure resistance across the Even Clutch Solenoid pins (should be 9.9 to 10 ohms). Lower resistance indicates a short.
With key ON and controller disconnected, probe the Even Clutch Solenoid signal wire for voltage. +12V indicates a harness short to power.
If wiring and solenoid test perfectly, swap the transmission controller with an identical tractor to check for an internal controller fault.
Verify with a dealer if the transmission controller requires a software update to fix logic errors.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the transmission powershift valve body. The Even Clutch Solenoid is typically identified in the service manual as Connector No. 30.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical connector from the Even Clutch Solenoid. Clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the transmission valve body. Remove the retaining hardware and carefully pull the solenoid out.
Installation
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve body and torque the retaining hardware to OEM specifications.
Reconnection
Reconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid. Reconnect the tractor's battery.
Calibration
Connect an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or use the tractor's onboard display to clear the inactive 2353 fault code. You must perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure so the TCU can learn the fill times and engagement characteristics of the new solenoid.
