Case IH 2354 – Transmission Controller (Trans / TCU): C1-2 Clutch Solenoid is shorted to +12 Volts, current sensed while driver is off.
Issue description
The controller is detecting electrical current flowing to the C1-2 transmission clutch solenoid even when the system is commanding the solenoid to be turned off (the driver is off). This points to a short-to-power (+12V) condition, which can be caused by a damaged wiring harness shorting to a power wire, an internal short within the solenoid coil itself, or a failure within the controller keeping the circuit energized.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the transmission wiring harness leading to the C1-2 clutch solenoid on the transmission valve body. Look for rubbed, melted, or pinched wires that could be shorting to a +12V power source.
Voltage Check (Harness Side): Disconnect the electrical connector at the C1-2 clutch solenoid. Turn the key ON (engine off). Use a multimeter to check for voltage at the harness connector. If +12V is present when the transmission is in neutral/park (driver off), the wiring harness is shorted to power and must be repaired.
Resistance Check (Solenoid Side): If the harness tests fine, measure the resistance across the pins of the C1-2 clutch solenoid itself. An out-of-spec or near-zero resistance reading indicates the solenoid coil is internally shorted and requires replacement.
Controller Check: If both the harness and solenoid test within specification, the transmission controller itself may have a failed internal driver that is leaking current.
Repair steps
Access the Valve Body
Locate the transmission control valve body where the clutch solenoids are mounted (typically accessible externally on the side of the transmission housing).
Remove the Faulty Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical connector from the C1-2 clutch solenoid. Remove the retaining bolts/hardware holding the solenoid in the valve body.
Install the New Solenoid
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve body and torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications.
Reconnect and Clear Codes
Reconnect the wiring harness. Connect a diagnostic tool to clear the 2354 fault code from the Transmission Controller.
Recalibrate Clutches
Whenever a transmission clutch solenoid is replaced or the controller is reset, you must perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure. Failure to do so will result in secondary fault codes (e.g., Code 2365: "C1-2 Clutch not calibrated").
