Case IH 2355 – TRANS (Transmission Control Unit): C3-4 Clutch Solenoid is shorted to +12 Volts, Current sensed while driver is off.
Issue description
This code indicates an electrical fault in the transmission control circuit. The controller is detecting electrical current flowing through the C3-4 clutch solenoid circuit even though the controller's internal driver (the electronic switch that commands the solenoid) is turned off. This means the solenoid's wiring or the solenoid itself is receiving unintended +12V power, usually due to a short circuit to a battery voltage source.

Check the cause
Inspect the transmission wiring harness between the Transmission ECU and the C3-4 clutch solenoid for pinched, chafed, or melted wires that could bridge the signal wire to a +12V power wire.
Disconnect the C3-4 solenoid connector and check for water ingress, dirt, or corrosion inside the plug, which can bridge the pins and cause a short to voltage.
Perform a voltage test: With the key ON (engine off) and the solenoid disconnected, use a multimeter to probe the harness-side signal wire. If it reads +12V when the transmission is in neutral/park, the wiring harness is shorted to power.
If the wiring harness tests perfectly fine and shows no shorts to power, check the transmission controller itself, as it may have a failed internal driver that is leaking voltage.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental shorting during repair.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the transmission control valve block (usually located on the side or top of the transmission housing). Identify the specific C3-4 clutch solenoid (refer to the tractor's specific service manual diagram for exact valve block layout).
Disconnect and Clean
Disconnect the electrical connector from the C3-4 solenoid. Clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the transmission valve body.
Remove the Solenoid
Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil/cartridge in place. Carefully pull the solenoid valve out of the manifold.
Install the New Solenoid
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and tighten the retaining nut/bolt to the OEM torque specification.
Reassemble
Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Reconnect the battery.
Calibrate
Start the tractor, clear the inactive fault codes via the AFS Pro monitor, and perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure to ensure the new C3-4 solenoid engages smoothly.
