2362 (2858.04) - DEC

Case IH 2362 (2858.04) - DEC – DEC: ROM - ROM hardware damaged

Issue description

Catastrophic internal hardware failure within the DEC module. The module has failed its internal self-test because it cannot read its own firmware, operating software, or configuration data stored on its internal Read-Only Memory chip.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Axial-Flow Combines (7230, 8230, 9230)
  • Steiger
  • Magnum
  • Puma
  • Optum

Check the cause

  1. Perform a hard reset by disconnecting the machine's batteries for 15–30 minutes to drain residual capacitor power, then reconnect and check if the error clears

  2. Perform a power and ground load test at the DEC harness connector to rule out low voltage, bad grounds, or alternator voltage spikes

  3. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and attempt to re-flash the DEC firmware to rule out software corruption

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the battery disconnect switch.

  2. Locate the DEC (Denoxtronic Engine Controller / Engine ECU).

On most Case IH tractors and combines, this is mounted near the engine block or the DEF pump supply module.

  3. Carefully release the locking levers on the wiring harness connectors and unplug the module.

Inspect the harness for DEF fluid wicking or water intrusion, which often causes internal ROM shorts.

  4. Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket.

    Usually 4 vibration-isolating bolts.

  5. Install the replacement DEC module and torque the mounting bolts to OEM spec.

  6. Reconnect the wiring harnesses, ensuring the locking levers click into place.

  7. Turn on battery power.

  8. Program the new module.

Connect the Case IH EST laptop, download the specific machine configuration (Machine Data Configuration 1) from the CNH eTIM portal, and program the new module to the machine.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Denoxtronic Engine Controller (DEC) / Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Exact part number depends on specific engine and machine serial number. A replacement module must be programmed by a dealer or someone with Case IH EST access.
