2363

Case IH 2363 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): The Odd Clutch is not calibrated

Issue description

The transmission controller detects that the calibration values for the odd-numbered gear clutch pack are missing, out of range, or incomplete. This often happens after a new controller is installed, after a battery replacement/power loss, or if a previous calibration attempt was aborted or failed.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH STX Steiger Series
  • Case IH MX / TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Check for Electrical Faults: Verify there are no active fault codes related to the Odd Clutch Solenoid (e.g., TRANS 104, 116, 2342, or 2354) indicating a short or open circuit. Calibration is impossible if an electrical fault exists.

  2. Check Fluid Temperature: Ensure the transmission fluid is warmed up to between 60°C and 105°C (140°F - 221°F) for optimum calibration results.

  3. Ensure Safety & Environment: Verify the tractor is parked in an open area free of obstacles, on a flat surface, with the parking brake engaged.

Repair steps

  1. Warm up transmission fluid

Start the engine and warm the transmission oil temperature to at least 60°C (140°F).

  2. Prepare machine for calibration

Park on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and ensure the area around the machine is clear.

  3. Access CONFIG MENU

Turn the key switch to the ON position. Within ten seconds, press and hold the Enter key on the keypad to bring up the CONFIG MENU.

  4. Select TCU

Use the down arrow key to highlight TCU in the menu list, then press Enter.

  5. Access ETC MENU

Press the down arrow key until the ETC MENU screen displays, then press Enter to access the transmission sub-menus (the TRANS VIEW screen will display).

  6. Access TRANS SETUP

Press the down arrow key until the TRANS SETUP screen displays, then press Enter.

  7. Begin Clutch Calibration

The Cltch Cal (clutch calibration) screen will display. Press Enter to begin.

  8. Verify Oil Temperature

The Oil Deg screen will display the current transmission fluid temperature. If the temperature is within the 60-105°C range, press Enter to proceed.

  9. Calibrate Odd Clutch

The system will automatically begin calibrating the clutches. When the Odd Clutch calibration completes, the screen will display the calibration value in milliamperes (mA).

  10. Continue Calibration

Press the Enter key to continue to the next clutch (e.g., Even Clutch) until all clutches are successfully calibrated.
