2364-06 - BCM

Case IH 2364-06 - BCM – BCM: Work Lamp #11 Current above normal or grounded circuit

Issue description

The voltage supply wire for Work Lamp #11 has found a direct path to the chassis ground before reaching the lamp load, or the control module has detected an excessive current draw indicative of a short.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • Puma
  • Optum
  • Farmall series

Check the cause

  1. Switch OFF the power supply by turning the ignition key to the OFF position.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at Work Lamp #11 and disconnect the corresponding harness connector at the BCM to isolate the circuit.

  3. Perform a continuity test between the work lamp's power supply wire (in the harness) and a known good chassis ground. Continuity (near 0 ohms) indicates a short to ground.

  4. Trace the wiring harness for Work Lamp #11 back to the BCM, looking for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation (especially near cab frame or articulation joints).

  5. Check the work lamp assembly itself for internal shorts by measuring the resistance across its terminals.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the machine's negative battery terminal to prevent further electrical damage.

  2. Locate wiring damage

If diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness, locate the exact point of damage (often at pinch points or cab pass-throughs).

  3. Repair wiring harness

Cut out the damaged section of the wire. Splice in a new section of wire of the same gauge using weather-sealed (heat-shrink) crimp connectors, or replace the affected harness section entirely.

  4. Replace work lamp

If the short was found to be internal to the work lamp housing, remove the mounting hardware and replace the work lamp assembly.

  5. Reconnect components

Reconnect the BCM harness and plug the connector back into Work Lamp #11.

  6. Test operation

Reconnect the negative battery terminal, turn the ignition ON, and test the work lamp operation.

  7. Clear fault code

Clear the inactive fault code using a diagnostic tool (such as the Case IH EST or Jaltest).
