Case IH 2367 – Transmission Controller (TCU / Trans): Low range clutch is not calibrated
Issue description
The transmission control system has lost the learned fill-time and modulation values for the low-range clutch pack, or a calibration procedure was interrupted/failed. Without these calibrated values, the transmission cannot smoothly or safely engage the low-range gear.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Magnum
- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Magnum Series
- MX Series
- Puma Series
- Steiger Series
- Maxxum Series
Check the cause
Check transmission fluid level and ensure the oil temperature is warmed up to between 60°C and 105°C (140°F - 220°F).
Verify the machine state: parked on a flat surface, parking brake engaged, engine running at the correct RPM, and shuttle lever in neutral.
Check the diagnostic display for active electrical fault codes related to the low-range clutch solenoid (e.g., Code 110).
If an electrical fault is suspected, disconnect the harness and measure the resistance of the low-range clutch solenoid (should measure between 8 to 11 Ohms).
Repair steps
Prepare machine
Move the tractor to an open area free of obstacles. Park on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
Warm transmission oil
Warm the transmission oil to at least 60°C (140°F).
Access CONFIG MENU
Turn the key switch to the ON position. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the Enter key on the keypad to access the CONFIG MENU.
Select TCU
Use the down arrow key to highlight TCU in the menu list, then press Enter.
Access ETC MENU
Scroll down to the ETC MENU screen and press Enter to access the transmission sub-menus (TRANS VIEW will display).
Access TRANS SETUP
Scroll down to the TRANS SETUP screen and press Enter.
Select Clutch Calibration
Select the Cltch Cal (Clutch Calibration) screen and press Enter.
Verify oil temperature
The screen will display Oil Deg, reporting the current hydraulic fluid temperature. If the temperature is within the 60°C - 105°C range, press Enter to proceed.
Run calibration
Follow the on-screen prompts. The TCU will automatically cycle the engine RPM and modulate the clutch valves to learn the fill times. Do not interrupt the process.
Verify completion
If the calibration completes successfully, the 2367 code will clear. If it fails, the display will output a specific failure code (e.g., U-codes) indicating what interrupted the process (e.g., U23, U26).
