Case IH 2369 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU / TRANS): High Range Clutch Not Calibrated
Issue description
The Transmission Control Unit has lost the calibration values for the clutch pack's "bite point" or a calibration was interrupted/failed.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Magnum
- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Magnum (235-340 Series 4)
- Case IH Puma
- Case IH Steiger (STX 350-600)
- Case IH Maxxum
Check the cause
Verify transmission fluid temperature is between 60°C and 105°C (140°F - 221°F); calibration will fail or abort if the oil is too cold.
Ensure the tractor is parked on a flat, level surface in an open area, as the machine may lurch or move slightly during the dynamic calibration process.
Check the TCU for other active electrical fault codes (e.g., TRANS 111, 112, 114) which indicate open or shorted clutch solenoids. Electrical faults will cause the calibration to fail.
Repair steps
Warm transmission fluid
Start the tractor and warm the transmission fluid to at least 60°C (140°F).
Prepare tractor for calibration
Park on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and set the engine speed to the specified calibration RPM (usually around 1200 RPM, depending on the exact model).
Access CONFIG MENU
Turn the key switch OFF, then turn it to the ON position. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the Enter key on the keypad to access the CONFIG MENU.
Select TCU
Use the down arrow to highlight TCU and press Enter.
Navigate to TRANS SETUP
Navigate to the ETC MENU -> TRANS VIEW -> TRANS SETUP.
Select Clutch Calibration
Select Cltch Cal (Clutch Calibration) and press Enter.
Verify oil temperature
The screen will display Oil Deg (current oil temperature). If it is within the 60°C - 105°C range, press Enter to proceed.
Follow calibration prompts
The system will prompt you to calibrate the clutches one by one (e.g., F1, R1, Mid Range, High Range).
Calibrate clutch
Hold the designated calibration button (often the upshift button or auto function switch). The TCU will slowly fill the clutch pack by modulating the PWM solenoid until it detects a drop in engine RPM (the "bite point").
Wait for calibration value
Once the controller calculates the correct mA required for that clutch, it will display a calibration number followed by an asterisk (*) or the word "End".
Save and proceed
Press Enter to save the value and move to the next clutch.
Complete calibration
Once all clutches are calibrated, the display will read Trans Cal Complete or End. Turn the key switch OFF to save the new calibration data to the TCU.
Inspect for mechanical failure
If the tractor violently lunges and aborts the calibration immediately, the clutch pack or the PWM solenoid is likely mechanically failed/stuck open.

Transmission Fluid & Filters
Required if the fluid is contaminated or burnt, which can cause erratic clutch engagement and calibration failures.
High Range Clutch Pack / Discs
Required if the internal clutch pack is burnt or mechanically failed, preventing the TCU from finding the RPM bite point.
