Case IH 2370 – Transmission Controller: Reverse clutch not calibrated
Issue description
The transmission control system has lost the calibration values (fill time and pressure parameters) for the reverse clutch pack, or a calibration procedure was interrupted or failed to complete successfully.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- Magnum
- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Magnum Series 180 through 340
- Magnum MX210
- Magnum MX230
- Magnum MX255
- Magnum MX285
- Puma Series 115 through 260
- Maxxum / MXM / MXU Series 100 through 190
- Steiger Series 350 through 600
Check the cause
Check Transmission Fluid Temperature: The transmission oil must be warmed up. Calibration requires the fluid to be between 60°C and 105°C (140°F - 221°F).
Check Battery Voltage: Ensure the battery voltage is sufficient to operate the clutch solenoids (low voltage will abort the calibration).
Check for Active Electrical Faults: Look for other active fault codes related to the reverse clutch solenoid (e.g., codes 2360 or FA4, which indicate the reverse clutch solenoid circuit is open or shorted to ground/power).
Safety Prep: Ensure the tractor is parked on a flat, open surface free of obstacles, with the parking brake engaged.
Repair steps
Warm up tractor
Warm up the tractor until the transmission fluid is over 60°C (140°F).
Prepare machine for calibration
Park on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and ensure the area around the machine is clear.
Access CONFIG MENU
Turn the key switch to the ON position. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the Enter key on the keypad to access the CONFIG MENU.
Select TCU
Use the down arrow key to highlight TCU (Transmission Control Unit) and press Enter.
Access ETC MENU
Navigate down to the ETC MENU and press Enter to access the transmission sub-menus (TRANS VIEW will display).
Access TRANS SETUP
Press the down arrow until the TRANS SETUP screen displays, then press Enter.
Select Clutch Calibration
Select the Cltch Cal (clutch calibration) screen and press Enter.
Verify fluid temperature
The display will show Oil Deg (current hydraulic fluid temperature). If the temperature is within the 60°C - 105°C range, press Enter to proceed.
Start automatic calibration
Follow the on-screen prompts. To start the automatic calibration, press the auto function switch (on some models, press and hold the 'm' button for two seconds).
Allow system to cycle clutches
The system will automatically cycle through the clutches. Note: The reverse clutch calibration takes approximately 30 seconds. You will feel a small backwards movement of the tractor when this specific clutch engages.
Verify completion
The lower central display will show 'End' (or indicate clutch '23' is finished) when the process is complete.
Inspect solenoid and wiring if calibration fails
If the calibration fails, you will need to physically inspect the reverse clutch PWM solenoid and its wiring harness for continuity issues.
