Case IH 2371 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Creeper position out of range.
Issue description
The sensor or potentiometer monitoring the physical engagement position of the creeper gear is returning a voltage or resistance value that falls outside of the factory-calibrated parameters, indicating the creeper is failing to fully engage/disengage mechanically, the sensor has lost its calibration, or the sensor/wiring has failed.

Check the cause
Verify that the tractor battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (like a jump box or external charger), as voltage irregularities can trigger false out-of-range codes.
Ensure the transmission oil is not cold. Warm the transmission fluid to between 60°C and 105°C (140°F - 221°F) before testing, as cold oil can prevent the creeper from fully engaging.
Inspect the creeper wire harness and the connector at the creeper position sensor for corrosion, moisture, or physical damage.
Repair steps
Prepare tractor for calibration
Park the tractor on a flat surface in an open area, engage the parking brake, and ensure the engine is running.
Warm transmission fluid
Warm the transmission hydraulic fluid to at least 60°C (140°F).
Ensure stationary state
Ensure the tractor is completely stationary and the clutch pedal is fully released.
Enter configuration menu
Enter the configuration menu (on models like the Magnum, press and hold the 'Enter' key on the keypad within 10 seconds of turning the key switch to the ON position).
Navigate to transmission setup
Navigate the menu: Select TCU -> ETC MENU -> TRANS VIEW -> TRANS SETUP.
Select calibration screen
Select the Cltch Cal (Clutch/Transmission Calibration) or Creeper Cal screen.
Perform creeper calibration
The system will prompt you to calibrate the creeper by manually engaging and then disengaging the creeper using the cab creeper switch.
Verify calibration success
The display will show the applied and released positions. If the calibration is successful, the new end-stop values are saved, and the code should clear.
Replace sensor if calibration fails
If the calibration fails or the code immediately returns, the creeper position sensor (potentiometer) is internally shorted/open and must be replaced, followed by a repeat of this calibration procedure.
