Case IH 2372 – ENG (Engine Controller / Engine ECU): Engine Fuel Filter clogged error

Issue description

This code is triggered when the system detects a restriction in the fuel flow, indicating that the fuel filter is blocked by debris, algae, or gelled fuel, or that there is a vacuum restriction in the fuel supply lines.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect fuel quality for stale, contaminated, or gelled fuel, and drain the water separator bowl to check for excessive water or algae buildup.

  2. Check fuel lines and the tank pick-up tube screen for obstructions, verifying that supply and vent lines are not kinked, pinched, or clogged.

  3. Verify the integrity of the fuel filter restriction sensor and its wiring harness to rule out a false clogged signal caused by damaged wires or a faulty sensor.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Turn off the engine and shut off the fuel supply valve at the tank to prevent fuel from draining out. Clean the area around the fuel filter housing to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.

  2. Drain the Filter

    If equipped with a water drain valve/bleed screw, open it to break the vacuum and drain the fuel/water from the filter bowl into a catch pan.

  3. Disconnect Sensor

    Unplug the wiring harness from the water-in-fuel/restriction sensor located on the bottom of the filter.

  4. Remove Filter

    Unscrew and remove the old fuel filter(s).

  5. Transfer Sensor

    Unscrew the sensor from the bottom of the old filter. Replace the sensor's O-ring to prevent air leaks, and install the sensor onto the new filter.

  6. Install New Filter

    Lubricate the seal of the new filter with clean diesel fuel. Thread the new filter onto the housing and hand-tighten according to the manufacturer's specifications (usually 3/4 to 1 full turn after the gasket makes contact).

  7. Reconnect

    Plug the sensor wiring harness back in and open the fuel supply valve.

  8. Bleed the System

    Use the manual primer pump on the fuel filter housing to bleed air from the system. Open the bleeder screw (if equipped) while pumping until a steady stream of fuel with no air bubbles flows out, then tighten the screw.

  9. Test

    Start the engine and inspect the filter and sensor for any fuel leaks.
