2372

Case IH 2372 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Creep Clutch is not calibrated

Issue description

The transmission controller does not have the correct engagement parameters saved for the creep clutch pack, which can cause harsh shifting, failure to engage, or transmission slipping.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • Magnum Series
  • Steiger & Quadtrac Series
  • Puma Series
  • MX / TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify transmission fluid temperature is between 60°C and 105°C (140°F+) before attempting calibration

  2. Check battery voltage to ensure it is sufficient for proper clutch solenoid operation

  3. Ensure the tractor is parked on a flat surface with the parking brake engaged and the area clear of people and obstacles

  4. Check for any active electrical faults related to the creep clutch solenoid (e.g., open circuits or shorts to ground)

Repair steps

  1. Warm up transmission oil

Warm up the transmission oil to at least 60°C (140°F).

  2. Prepare tractor for calibration

Park the tractor on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and shut the engine off.

  3. Enter Calibration Mode

For older MX/Quadtrac models: Hold the 'PROG' (Program) and 'RESET' keys on the display while starting the engine. For newer Magnum models: Turn the key switch to the ON position and press and hold the 'Enter' key on the keypad within 10 seconds.

  4. Navigate to TCU/TRANS

Once the CONFIG MENU displays, use the up/down arrow keys to navigate to TCU or TRANS (Transmission).

  5. Access transmission sub-menus

Press the Enter (or PROG) key to access the transmission sub-menus.

  6. Select Transmission Calibration

Scroll until you find the TRANS CAL (Transmission Calibration) or Cltch Cal (Clutch Calibration) screen and press Enter.

  7. Verify oil temperature

The screen will display the current oil temperature. If it is within the acceptable range, press Enter to begin.

  8. Follow on-screen prompts

Follow the on-screen prompts. The controller will automatically cycle through the clutches (including the creep clutch) to learn their fill times and engagement pressures.

  9. Exit menu

Once the display indicates the calibration is complete, use the exit buttons to back out of the menu.

  10. Save calibration values

Crucial Step: Shut off the tractor and wait for at least 30 seconds before restarting. This allows the TCU to permanently save the new calibration values to its memory.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Creep Clutch Solenoid

OEM part numbers vary heavily by specific transmission serial number; consult the CNH parts catalog for your exact chassis

  • Transmission Oil Filter

If the transmission is slipping or failing to build pressure during calibration, the filters may be plugged.
