Case IH 2373 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Master Clutch not calibrated

Triggered when the transmission controller detects that the calibration values for the master clutch engagement are missing, incomplete, or invalid, which often happens after a new controller is installed, a software update, or if a previous calibration was interrupted.

   Check transmission oil temperature (must be between 60 °C and 105 °C / 140 °F - 221 °F for calibration to succeed)

   Verify battery voltage is sufficient, as low voltage (e.g., Code 2809) prevents proper clutch solenoid operation

   Check for active electrical faults for the Master Clutch Solenoid (Codes 2362, 108) or Potentiometer (Codes 11, 12, 47)

   Ensure the tractor is parked on a flat surface in an open area with the parking brake engaged

   Warm up transmission oil

   Start the tractor and warm the transmission oil to at least 60 °C (140 °F).

   Prepare machine for calibration

   Park on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and ensure the area around the machine is clear (the machine may lurch slightly during calibration).

   Access CONFIG MENU

   Turn the key switch to the ON position. Within ten seconds, press and hold the Enter / PROG key on the keypad to access the CONFIG MENU.

   Select TCU

   Use the down arrow key to highlight TCU (Transmission Control Unit) and press Enter.

   Navigate to TRANS SETUP

   Navigate down to the TRANS SETUP (or ETC MENU) screen and press Enter.

   Select Clutch Calibration

   Select Cltch Cal (Clutch Calibration) and press Enter.

   Verify oil temperature

   The screen will display Oil Deg (the current hydraulic fluid temperature). If it is within the 60 - 105 °C range, press Enter to continue.

   Select Master Clutch

   The system will prompt you to select the clutch to calibrate. Navigate to the Master Clutch (often displayed as MSTR or MSTR mA) and press Enter/PROG to begin.

   Allow automatic calibration

   The transmission controller will automatically adjust the solenoid valve openings to supply oil to the clutch, measuring the speed at which the clutch engages.

    Wait for completion

    Wait for the process to finish. The display will show the final calibration milliamp (mA) numbers followed by an asterisk (*), or it will read CAL COMPLT.

    Save calibration

    Press Enter to save the calibration.

    Power cycle to save to memory

    Crucial Step: Shut off the engine completely after the calibration is finished to ensure the new calibration values are permanently saved to the controller's memory.
