Case IH 2377 – Transmission Control Module (TCM): Fault on 19th Gear Dump Valve

Malfunction associated with the transmission's 19th gear (often the 50KPH overdrive) dump valve solenoid. The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or overvoltage), a mechanical binding of the valve spool, or a hydraulic pressure failure preventing the dump valve from properly releasing or holding hydraulic pressure in the clutch pack.

   Inspect the wiring harness for the 19th Gear Dump Valve Solenoid (X263 or Y-031) for chafing, breaks, or corrosion, specifically checking Wire TN 9035 and Wire BK 57.

   Test the resistance of the dump valve solenoid coil using a multimeter to ensure it is not short-circuited or showing an open circuit.

   Verify that the transmission control supply and the 5V transmission sensor supply (Wire GN 7525) are functioning correctly without voltage drops.

   Check the transmission charge pressure to ensure the system is meeting the minimum bar/psi requirements.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Locate the Valve

   Access the transmission control valve block (usually located on the side of the transmission housing) and identify the 19th gear dump valve solenoid.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Unplug the electrical connector (housing the TN 9035 and BK 57 wires) from the solenoid.

   Remove the Valve

   Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil. Slide the coil off. Use the appropriate wrench to unthread and extract the dump valve cartridge from the manifold block.

   Inspect and Clean

   Inspect the valve bore in the manifold for scoring, debris, or metal shavings. Clean the area thoroughly.

   Install New Components

   Lubricate the O-rings and backup rings on the new dump valve cartridge with clean transmission fluid. Thread the new valve into the block and tighten to OEM torque specifications. Install the new solenoid coil and secure it.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness connector and reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Power on the tractor. Access the H8 / HC menu via the diagnostic display to clear the stored error codes and reset the EEPROM values. Finally, perform a full transmission clutch calibration procedure to ensure the TCM learns the engagement profile of the new valve.
