2380

Case IH 2380 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / EPL Actuator/Controller module: Parklock – unable to reach desired position

Issue description

Indicates a failure within the Electronic Park Lock (EPL) system. The fault is triggered when the EPL actuator is commanded to move (either to apply or release the park lock) but physically fails to reach the target position. This can be caused by a mechanical bind in the transmission park lock mechanism, a failed actuator motor, corrupted calibration data, or low voltage/amperage reaching the module.

Applies to these machines

  • Optum
  • Optum CVT
  • Puma CVT series (165, 175, 180, 185, 190, 195, 210, 225, 240)
  • Magnum CVT series
  • Maxxum CVT
  • Steiger CVT

Check the cause

  1. Perform a load test on the batteries and clean all terminals (ensure no external power supply is connected during testing).

  2. Check for accompanying EPL codes (e.g., 12213, 12212, or 12185) that indicate the module has lost its calibration memory.

  3. Check for an open ground circuit on the EPL harness (e.g., connector X-745 pin A8 to ground).

  4. Turn the ignition switch ON and verify a full 12V power supply reaches the EPL connector (e.g., connector X-745 pin C1 to ground).

Repair steps

  1. Access diagnostics

Access the tractor's diagnostic "H-Menu" (or use the Electronic Service Tool - EST).

  2. Navigate to module

Navigate to the XA module (EPL controller).

  3. Clear memory

Use the H8 command to clear the stored calibration information (EEPROM) from the Electronic park lock actuator.

  4. Re-enable EPL

Use the H3 command to re-enable the EPL configurations and options.

  5. Calibrate

Run the H1 calibration procedure for the Electronic park lock actuator. Ensure the tractor is parked away from obstacles with wheels blocked, and no implements are connected during this process.

  6. Test system

Operate the system to see if the error code returns.

  7. Replace actuator

If the error code 2380 immediately returns, or if the EST/H-Menu states it is impossible to calibrate the EPL, the internal motor/sensors of the EPL assembly have failed. You must remove and replace the EPL actuator assembly.

  8. Recalibrate

After installing the new EPL actuator, you must perform the H1 calibration procedure again to initialize the new unit.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Electronic Park Lock (EPL) Actuator Assembly

Generic part name; specific OEM part number varies heavily by exact chassis/serial number break, often requiring lookup via CNH EST.

  • 24-Pin EPL Multipole Connector (Female)

    87699386

Often replaced if harness corrosion is found at the EPL module.

  • 6-Pin Calibration Connector

    87700107

    Replaces 280451A1.
