Case IH 2381 – Electronic Park Lock (EPL) controller or Transmission Control Module (TCM): Parklock discs to be replaced
Issue description
The Electronic Park Lock (EPL) system has detected that the internal friction discs have worn beyond their acceptable tolerance limits. Because the discs are too thin, the park lock mechanism can no longer safely hold the vehicle or reach its desired engagement position without slipping.

Check the cause
Check for related codes such as 2380, 2382, or 2383/2384 which may indicate other EPL system issues
Check battery voltage to ensure batteries are fully charged, as low voltage during startup can trigger false parklock faults
Attempt an EPL calibration using the diagnostic menu or Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if the code temporarily clears
If stranded, use the EST software to temporarily disable the EPL in the configurations menu for an emergency move (use manual handbrake)
Repair steps
Access the Park Lock
Drain the necessary transmission fluid and remove the transmission park lock cover/housing.
Disassemble the Pack
Remove the thrust washer, piston, and the worn pack of steel intermediate plates and friction discs.
Prep the New Parts
CRITICAL: If you are using new friction discs, they must be soaked in clean engine/transmission oil for at least 30 minutes prior to installation.
Reassembly
Layer the new steel discs and the soaked friction discs alternately into the housing.
Seals and Piston
Insert a new ring seal into the ring groove of the piston. Fit the piston, ensuring the flat side is oriented correctly, followed by the thrust washer.
Reinstall Housing
Bolt the park lock cover back onto the transmission and reconnect all hydraulic lines and EPL electrical connectors.
Mandatory Calibration
Once reassembled and refilled with fluid, you must perform an Electronic Park Lock (EPL) calibration using the EST or the tractor's A-post diagnostic monitor. This teaches the EPL controller the thickness of the new disc pack so it applies the correct engagement pressure.
