2382-06 - BCM

Case IH 2382-06 - BCM – BCM: Work lamp #5 - short circuit to ground

Issue description

The electrical circuit supplying power to the number 5 work lamp has an unintended path to the machine's ground (chassis or ground wire). This condition typically causes the control module to disable the circuit to prevent wiring damage or blown fuses.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum AFS Connect 180
  • Magnum AFS Connect 200
  • Magnum AFS Connect 220
  • Magnum AFS Connect 240
  • Magnum AFS Connect 250
  • Magnum AFS Connect 280
  • Magnum AFS Connect 310
  • Magnum AFS Connect 340
  • Magnum AFS Connect 380
  • Steiger AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Consult the operator's manual to identify exactly which physical light on the cab corresponds to Work lamp #5 for your specific lighting package.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector directly at Work lamp #5 to isolate the component.

  3. Use a multimeter to check for internal continuity between the power and ground pins on the lamp assembly itself. If there is continuity where there shouldn't be, the lamp is internally shorted.

  4. With the lamp disconnected, use a multimeter to test the power supply wire on the machine-side harness for continuity to ground. If continuity to ground is present, the short is in the wiring harness between the BCM and the lamp connector.

  5. Trace the wiring harness from the lamp back to the BCM, looking for pinched wires, chafed insulation rubbing against the cab frame, or melted connectors.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

  2. Address the Short

If the wiring harness is damaged: Repair the chafed or broken wire by cutting out the damaged section, splicing in a new piece of wire, and sealing it with weather-resistant heat-shrink tubing. Secure the harness away from sharp edges using zip ties. If the work lamp is internally shorted: Unbolt the defective work lamp assembly from its mounting bracket and install a new replacement lamp.

  3. Reassemble

Reconnect the work lamp pigtail to the main harness.

  4. Test

Reconnect the battery and turn on the tractor's work lights to verify that Work lamp #5 illuminates and does not immediately trip the circuit.

  5. Clear Codes

Use the tractor's AFS Pro display or a dealer electronic service tool to clear the 2382-06 inactive fault code from the BCM memory.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Work Lamp Assembly (#5)

The exact OEM part number will vary heavily depending on whether the tractor is equipped with the Halogen or LED lighting package, and its specific cab configuration.

  • Body Control Module (BCM)

    47896946

Software version 1.0.0.0. Required if the module itself is found to be internally shorted and requires replacement.

  • Wiring Harness / Pigtail Connector

Required if the connector is melted or the harness is damaged beyond a simple splice.
