Case IH 2386-00 - BCM – BCM: Rotating beacon light - too many loads or faulty load
Issue description
An overcurrent condition on the rotating beacon light circuit. The system has detected 'too many loads or a faulty load,' which means the circuit is drawing more amperage than the control module is programmed to allow.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect Series (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
- Optum Series
- Steiger Series
- Quadtrac Series
Check the cause
Visually inspect the rotating beacon light housing for physical damage, cracked lenses, or water intrusion (a leading cause of a faulty load short).
Trace the beacon wiring harness to ensure no aftermarket equipment (e.g., CB radios, extra LED pods) has been spliced into the beacon power wire.
Disconnect the rotating beacon light at its base connector and turn the beacon switch on. If the code changes to an 'open circuit' code, the beacon assembly itself is faulty. If the overcurrent code remains, the short is in the wiring harness.
Test the cab rocker switch and the electrical accessory power relay for internal shorts.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground to protect the BCM from further electrical spikes.
Remove the Faulty Load
If aftermarket accessories are tapped into the beacon circuit, remove them and wire them to a dedicated fused auxiliary circuit.
Inspect/Repair Wiring
If the harness tested bad during diagnostics, locate the chafed wire (commonly found where the harness routes through the cab roof or ROPS) and repair it using weather-sealed butt connectors.
Replace the Beacon
If the beacon assembly is internally shorted, remove the dust cover/fixing pin or unbolt the 3-screw base. Mount the new OEM rotating beacon and plug it into the factory harness.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition to the ON position and use your diagnostic tool to clear the BCM fault codes.
Verify Operation
Toggle the beacon rocker switch to ensure the light operates correctly and the 2386-00 code does not return.
