Case IH 2388-05 - BCM – BCM: Work lamp #8 - open circuit
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the control module has detected an "open circuit" on the electrical circuit supplying power to Work Lamp #8. An open circuit means that electrical current cannot flow, which is typically caused by a blown bulb/LED, a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or a failed ground connection.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum AFS Connect
- Steiger AFS Connect
Check the cause
Consult the operator's manual to identify the exact physical location of Work Lamp #8 (e.g., front cab roof, rear fender).
Inspect the bulb or LED assembly for obvious signs of failure, burnout, or physical damage.
Unplug the connector at Work Lamp #8 and check for loose pins, pushed-back terminals, moisture, or corrosion inside the plug.
Using a multimeter, test the connector at the lamp. With the tractor key ON and the work light switch activated, check for 12V power on the supply wire and ensure there is a solid path to ground on the ground wire.
If there is no power at the lamp connector, trace the wiring harness back toward the BCM (checking intermediate cab/roof harness connectors) for broken or chafed wires.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent short circuits during repair.
If the lamp is faulty: Remove the mounting hardware for Work Lamp #8, disconnect the pigtail, and install a new LED or halogen work lamp assembly.
If the connector is corroded: Clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner. If the connector is melted or heavily corroded, splice in a new replacement connector pigtail using weatherproof heat-shrink butt connectors. Apply dielectric grease to the pins before reconnecting.
If the wiring is broken: Locate the break in the harness. Strip back the damaged wire, splice in a new section of wire if necessary, and seal the repair with marine-grade heat shrink tubing.
Reconnect the battery and turn on the work lights to verify that Work Lamp #8 illuminates.
Clear the fault code using a diagnostic tool, or cycle the ignition key.
The BCM will often move the code to an inactive state once it detects the proper circuit resistance.
