Case IH 2388-06 - BCM – BCM: Work lamp #8 - short circuit to ground

The Body Control Module (BCM) has detected that the electrical current on the circuit for Work Lamp #8 is abnormally high or directly grounded. This typically means the power wire supplying the lamp has chafed and is touching the machine's metal chassis, or the internal circuitry of the lamp housing itself has collapsed and shorted out.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to Work Lamp #8. Look for pinched wires, melted insulation, or areas where the harness rubs against the cab frame or articulation points.

   Component Isolation: Disconnect the pigtail connector directly at Work Lamp #8. Clear the codes or cycle the key. If the 2388-06 code changes to an "Open Circuit" code (such as FMI 05), the short is internal to the lamp assembly. If the FMI 06 code remains, the short is in the wiring harness between the BCM and the lamp connector.

   Harness Continuity Test: With the battery disconnected and the lamp unplugged, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the power pin on the lamp's harness connector and a known good chassis ground. If continuity exists, trace the wire back to the BCM to find the short.

   BCM Pin Check: Inspect the BCM output pins for Work Lamp #8 for corrosion, water ingress, or bent pins, which can sometimes bridge circuits.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the main negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing or further damage to the BCM.

   Address the Short

   If the lamp is faulty: Unbolt the Work Lamp #8 assembly from its mounting bracket. Install the replacement lamp and plug it into the harness. If the harness is faulty: Locate the chafed or melted section of the wire. Cut out the damaged section, splice in a new piece of wire of the same gauge, and seal it with marine-grade heat shrink tubing to prevent moisture ingress. Secure the harness with zip ties away from sharp edges or moving parts.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the negative battery cable.

   Clear Codes & Test

   Turn the ignition on. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the in-cab Pro/AFS display monitor to clear the inactive 2388-06 fault code. Turn on the work lamps and verify that Work Lamp #8 illuminates without tripping the breaker or resetting the code.
