Case IH 2390 – CCM (Chassis/Cab Control Module) / UCM (Universal Control Module): Hydraulic Trans Lube - Oil low pressure circuit, pressure too low
Issue description
The hydraulic pressure within the transmission's lubrication circuit has dropped below the minimum safe operating threshold. If the transmission operates without adequate lubrication pressure, it can lead to catastrophic mechanical failure, excessive bearing clearance, and overheating.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- Optum
- Heavy Duty (HD) tractors equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
Check the cause
Verify the transmission/hydraulic oil level, as low fluid is the most common cause of a low-pressure fault.
Check for external oil leaks in hydraulic lines, hoses, and around transmission gaskets.
Ensure the oil is of the correct SAE grade/viscosity and is not diluted or contaminated.
Check the transmission/hydraulic oil filter for clogging or heavy restriction.
Test the oil pressure sensor/switch to ensure it is not defective and is sending the correct reading to the CCM.
Measure the servo/lube pump pressure and check if the pressure relief valve or pressure limiting valve is stuck open or failing to close.
Repair steps
Halt Operation
Stop the tractor immediately to bring the engine and transmission speed down, preventing mechanical damage.
Top Up / Replace Fluid
If the fluid level is low, add the correct Case IH-approved hydraulic/transmission fluid. If the oil is degraded or the wrong viscosity, drain and refill the system.
Replace the Filter
If the hydraulic/transmission oil filter is clogged, remove and replace it with a new OEM filter.
Replace the Pressure Sensor
If diagnostic testing shows the oil pressure sensor is providing an incorrect reading to the CCM, disconnect the wiring harness, unthread the faulty sensor, and install a replacement.
Inspect/Replace Valves
If the pressure relief valve is loose or stuck open due to impurities, remove the valve, clean the housing, and replace the valve assembly.
Clear Codes and Test
Once the mechanical repair is complete, use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the 2390 fault code from the CCM and test-drive the tractor to ensure the lube pressure remains within normal parameters.
