2394-03 - BCM

Case IH 2394-03 - BCM – BCM: Work lamp #9 short circuit to B+

Issue description

A 'short circuit to B+' indicates that the wire or component (Work lamp #9) is receiving a direct connection to battery positive voltage when it should not, pointing to an electrical fault. In the logic of many electronic control units, registering a full voltage signal can sometimes indicate an open circuit (no connection) rather than a physical short, or it means a wire is improperly touching a positive power source.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Check the battery condition for weakness or failure.

  2. Inspect wiring and connections for physical damage, wire breaks, or bad connections.

  3. Check for corrosion on terminals (green or white deposits).

  4. Check BCM basics, verifying the BCM ground wire and relevant fuses are intact.

  5. Test circuit resistance by disconnecting the work lamp and checking resistance/continuity at the pins to verify if the circuit is shorted to a positive power source.

Repair steps

  1. Test battery

Start by testing the battery's health to rule out low-voltage electrical anomalies.

  2. Inspect wiring

Locate Work lamp #9 and visually inspect its wiring harness for any melted plastic, wire breaks, or physical damage.

  3. Inspect terminals

Disconnect the lamp and inspect the terminals for corrosion; clean away any green or white deposits if found.

  4. Check continuity

Using a multimeter, check the wiring harness for continuity to ensure the ground/signal wires are not shorted to another positive circuit.

  5. Repair or replace wiring

If a short or open circuit is found in the wiring, repair or replace the affected wiring harness.

  6. Replace component

If the wiring and connections check out perfectly, the fault may lie within the work lamp itself or the Body Control Module (BCM). Replace the faulty component.
