Case IH 2394-06 - BCM – BCM: Work Lamp #9 Short circuit to ground

The control module has detected that the power supply wire for Work Lamp #9 is touching the chassis ground (or the ground wire) before the load, or the lamp itself has suffered an internal short. This causes excessive current draw, which the module detects and subsequently disables the circuit to prevent a fire or wiring damage.

   Visually inspect Work Lamp #9 for physical damage, cracked lenses, or water intrusion, which is a primary cause of internal shorts.

   Trace the wiring harness from the lamp back to the cab roof/fender entry point. Look for pinched wires, chafing against the frame, or melted insulation.

   Isolate the short: Disconnect the electrical pigtail at Work Lamp #9 and clear the fault code or cycle the key. If the fault changes to an Open Circuit code, the short is internal to the lamp assembly. If the FMI 06 code remains, the short is in the wiring harness.

   With the battery disconnected, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the power pin on the harness connector and the chassis ground. If continuity exists, there is a wiring short.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing or further damage to the BCM.

   Access the Component

   Locate Work Lamp #9 (refer to the operator's manual for the specific lighting array diagram, typically located on the rear cab roof or fenders).

   Remove the Lamp

   Unbolt the lamp bracket and disconnect the wiring harness pigtail.

   Repair the Harness (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring, locate the chafed section. Cut out the damaged wire, splice in a new section using weather-sealed (heat-shrink) butt connectors, and wrap the harness in protective loom.

   Replace the Lamp (If Applicable)

   If the lamp is internally shorted or water-logged, install a replacement OEM work lamp assembly. Ensure the connector is seated firmly and the weather seal is intact.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery. Turn on the ignition and activate the work lights. Verify that Work Lamp #9 illuminates and that the BCM no longer logs the 2394-06 fault code.
