Case IH 2425 – Transmission Controller (TCU / Transmission ECU): Attempted to select a disabled range
Issue description
This is typically a secondary fault code. It means the operator (or the transmission's auto-shift logic) attempted to shift into a transmission range (Low, Medium, High, or Reverse) that the transmission controller has actively locked out or 'disabled' because it detected a critical electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or overvoltage) in that specific range's clutch solenoid circuit.

Check the cause
Check for primary active transmission fault codes (e.g., 2348, 2349, 2350, 2357) to identify which specific range solenoid failed
Inspect the specific range solenoid connector (e.g., X-641, X-642, X-643, X-644) and main Transmission Control Unit (CCU) connectors for tight seating, corrosion, or pushed-back pins
Test solenoid resistance by disconnecting the affected range clutch solenoid and measuring between terminal 1 and 2 with a multimeter (OEM specification is 8 to 11 Ohms)
Check the wiring harness between the solenoid connector and the TCU for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to a positive voltage source if the solenoid resistance is within spec
Repair steps
Identify the Faulty Circuit
Use the primary fault code (e.g., 2349 for High Range) to locate the correct clutch solenoid on the transmission valve body.
Disconnect Power
Turn the tractor's ignition switch to the OFF position and disconnect the battery ground to protect the TCU.
Remove the Solenoid
If the solenoid failed the resistance test (measured outside of the 8-11 Ohm range), disconnect its wiring harness and carefully unthread/remove the solenoid from the transmission valve block.
Install the Replacement
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Install the new solenoid and torque it to the specification listed in your specific model's service manual.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the solenoid tested fine but the harness failed the continuity test, locate the break or chafe in the wiring loom and repair it using weather-sealed connectors, or replace the affected harness section.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery, turn the key ON, and clear the stored fault codes. It is highly recommended to perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure after replacing a transmission solenoid to ensure smooth shifting.
