Case IH 2429 – CCU / TCU: Creeper switch always on

The system detects that the creeper gear engagement switch is continuously sending a closed/active signal, indicating it is either physically stuck or there is a short in the circuit.

   Verify that the creeper switch on the cab control console is not physically jammed, stuck, or obstructed by debris.

   Inspect the wiring from the creeper switch to the control module for pinched wires, rubbed insulation, or exposed copper.

   Disconnect the switch and check the wiring harness side for a short to ground or a short to +12V.

   With the ignition ON, check the supply side of the switch connector for +12V.

   Test the switch itself with a multimeter for continuity. If the switch shows continuity (closed circuit) regardless of whether it is toggled on or off, the internal contacts have failed closed.

   Safely Park the Machine

   Ensure the tractor has come to a complete stop, as creeper gears must never be engaged or diagnosed while moving. Turn off the engine and remove the key.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the creeper switch on the cab control console (often located near the transmission/shuttle controls or right-hand console depending on the model). Remove the console trim panels as necessary to access the rear of the switch.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the creeper switch.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If your diagnostic tests revealed a short to ground in the wiring harness, trace the wire back to the CCU/TCU and repair the damaged section using proper automotive-grade wire splicing and heat shrink.

   Replace the Switch (If Applicable)

   If the switch tested faulty (stuck closed), remove the retaining bracket (often held by M5 screws) and pull the switch out of the console. Insert the new OEM switch and secure it with the bracket.

   Reassembly and Clearing Codes

   Reconnect the wiring harness, reinstall the console trim, and turn the ignition key to the ON position. Use the tractor's diagnostic display or service tool to clear the inactive fault codes and verify that code 2429 does not return.
