2475 (513.10) - DEC

Case IH 2475 (513.10) - DEC – DEC / DCU: CAN 1 - EEC1 Absent on CAN1

Issue description

The fault code indicates a Controller Area Network (CAN) communication failure. Specifically, 'EEC1 Absent on CAN1' means that the Electronic Engine Controller 1 (EEC1) data frame is missing, timing out, or not being received on the CAN 1 network. The torque data being broadcast is either missing, out of range, or updating at an abnormal rate due to the communication drop.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Magnum Tractors (235 - 340 Series 4)
  • Case IH STX Steiger Tractors (350 to 600 horsepower)
  • Case IH Axial-Flow Combines (7230, 8230, 9230)

Check the cause

  1. Check battery and system voltage, as low voltage can cause CAN modules to drop offline and stop broadcasting messages

  2. Inspect the CAN bus wiring for physical breaks

  3. Test the CAN wires and connectors to ensure they are not defective, shorted to vehicle ground, or shorted to battery voltage

  4. Check for electrical interference on the CAN-Bus network that might be corrupting the EEC1 data frame

Repair steps

  1. Verify Power

Test the battery and charging system to ensure proper voltage is reaching the engine and drivetrain controllers.

  2. Inspect Connectors

Disconnect the harness at the DEC/DCU and the Engine ECU. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or poor terminal tension.

  3. Test CAN Network

Measure the resistance of the CAN 1 network to verify the integrity of the wiring and terminating resistors.

  4. Repair Wiring

If a break, short to ground, or short to power is found in the CAN lines between the Engine ECU and the DEC, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness or replace the defective connector pins.

  5. Module Verification

If the wiring is completely intact and voltage is correct, the fault may lie internally within the Engine ECU (failing to send) or the DEC (failing to receive).

  6. Clear Codes

After repairs, clear the inactive fault codes using the diagnostic monitor and cycle the key to verify the EEC1 message is restored on the CAN bus.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • CAN Bus Wiring Harness / Repair Pigtail

Fitment depends on the specific tractor/combine chassis.

  • CAN Terminating Resistor

Required if the network resistance is out of specification.

  • Engine Control Unit (ECU) or Drivetrain Electronic Controller (DEC)

Only required if diagnostic testing proves the module has failed internally and cannot broadcast/receive CAN messages.
