Case IH 25 – Armrest Controller: Hitch Up/Down Switch failed in the Armrest controller

Issue description

The controller is either receiving an invalid signal from the physical switch, or there is a software execution error preventing the switch's inputs from being processed correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Understand the Switch Positions: Position A (Hitch Up), Position B (Center/Neutral position), and Position C (Momentary/Fast Down).

  2. Check Connector J210 Pinout: J210-1 (Hitch down signal), J210-2 (Not used), J210-3 (Hitch fast down signal), J210-4 (Hitch up signal), J210-5 (Switch power 12 volts), J210-6 (Not used).

  3. Verify that 12V power is reaching the switch on pin J210-5.

  4. Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for continuity across the switch terminals while toggling it between the Up, Center, and Down positions. Ensure the switch is properly closing the circuits for pins 1, 3, and 4.

Repair steps

  1. Access wiring

Power down the tractor and access the internal wiring of the right-hand armrest console.

  2. Locate switch and connector

Locate the Hitch Up/Down switch and its corresponding harness connector (J210).

  3. Inspect wiring harness

Inspect the wiring harness for chafing, pinched wires, or loose pins at the connector block.

  4. Perform electrical tests

Perform the multimeter continuity and voltage tests outlined in the diagnostic checks.

  5. Replace switch

If the switch fails the continuity test (e.g., reads open when pressed or shorted when neutral), remove the faulty switch from the armrest bezel and install a replacement switch.

  6. Reflash or replace controller

If the switch tests perfectly and the wiring is intact, the Armrest Controller may need to be reflashed by a dealer or replaced entirely due to a software execution error.

  7. Verify repair

Clear the fault codes and test the hitch operation to verify the repair.
