Case IH 25 – PTO (Power Take-Off) / Transmission Controller: Stored error code from a previously corrected error

Issue description

This message indicates that the system is flagging a historical (inactive) fault. The underlying condition that originally caused the fault has been resolved or is no longer present, but the code remains in the controller's non-volatile memory.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Maxxum
  • MX110
  • MX135
  • MX200
  • MX285
  • MXM series

Check the cause

  1. Verify if there are any other active codes, as this code explicitly indicates a previously corrected error.

  2. Check the system functionality (e.g., PTO engagement, transmission shifting) to ensure no physical symptoms persist.

  3. Review the history of recent repairs on the tractor to understand what was previously fixed, as this code is just a leftover footprint of that repair.

Repair steps

  1. Enter diagnostic mode

Enter the tractor's diagnostic mode to read the stored codes (usually done by turning the PTO switch OFF then back ON to cycle to the next error code).

  2. Read stored codes

Read and record all stored codes until you reach the end of the sequence.

  3. Erase codes

Erase the codes by cycling the PTO lever 3 times within 5 seconds, ending in the "ON" position.

  4. Confirm erasure

The PTO indicator lamp will come on for 2 seconds and then go out, confirming the codes are now erased.

  5. Verify code does not return

Turn the PTO off, cycle the tractor's key switch (OFF then ON), and verify that the code does not return.

  6. Clear codes (MXM series)

If you are working on an MXM series, clearing stored codes is done via the "HC" menu in the H-Menu routines using the upshift/downshift buttons.
