Case IH 2507 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): F1/F3 synchronizer potentiometer - signal too high
Issue description
The transmission control system is receiving a voltage signal from the F1/F3 synchronizer position sensor (potentiometer) that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. A "signal too high" condition typically points to a short to a 5V/12V power source, an open ground circuit in the wiring harness, or an internally shorted sensor.

Check the cause
Access the tractor's diagnostic 'H Menu' via the ADIC display to view the live potentiometer reading for the F1/F3 synchronizer.
Inspect the wiring harness connecting the F1/F3 synchronizer potentiometer to the transmission controller. Look for rubbed or chafed wires that could be causing a short to power.
Check the ground circuit for the sensor. An open ground will cause the signal voltage to default to its highest state.
Disconnect the 3-pin connector at the sensor to isolate the fault. If the live voltage reading drops, the sensor is likely shorted internally. If the reading remains high, the wiring harness is shorted to power.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the key.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the F1/F3 synchronizer potentiometer (rotary position sensor) on the transmission housing.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor. Remove the mounting bolts/hardware securing the potentiometer to the synchronizer unit flange and remove the faulty sensor.
Installation
Install the new potentiometer, ensuring the rotary tang aligns correctly with the synchronizer shaft. Secure the mounting bolts.
Reconnection
Reconnect the electrical harness to the sensor.
Calibration
You must perform a transmission calibration (Full Power Shift or CVT calibration) using the tractor's ADIC menu. This allows the transmission controller to relearn the specific voltage values for the Neutral, F1, and F3 positions of the new synchronizer potentiometer.
Clear Codes
Clear the fault codes from the system and test drive the tractor to ensure F1 and F3 gears engage smoothly without throwing code 2507 or 2509 (Synchro not moving towards F1).
