Case IH 2514 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): F3 solenoid - circuit fault

Indicates an electrical malfunction—such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or abnormal current draw—in the circuit controlling the F3 transmission synchronizer/clutch solenoid.

   Inspect the chassis wiring harness between the transmission controller and the F3 solenoid for chafing, pinched wires, or a short to ground.

   Examine the 2-pin connector at the F3 solenoid (AMP Superseal 1.5 type) for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress.

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the F3 solenoid coil and compare the reading against the OEM specification to determine if the coil is internally open or shorted.

   Perform a current draw test to verify the specific current ramp-up (e.g., initially drawing roughly 9.5A); abnormal current profiles will log the circuit fault.

   Safety First

   Lower all equipment to the ground, stop the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground strap. Hang a "DO NOT OPERATE" tag in the cab.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the transmission control valve block (usually on the side of the transmission housing) and identify the F3 Synchro/Clutch solenoid.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the 2-pin electrical connector from the F3 solenoid.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the connector is damaged, splice in a new replacement pigtail/connector.

   Replace Solenoid (If Faulty)

   Remove the retaining hardware securing the F3 solenoid to the valve block. Extract the solenoid and install the new OEM replacement. Torque the retaining hardware to OEM specifications.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery ground strap.

   Clear Codes & Calibrate

   Turn the key on, access the tractor's diagnostic menu (or use a service tool), and clear the stored 2514 fault code. Perform a transmission calibration procedure as outlined in the service manual to ensure the new solenoid engages the synchronizer correctly.
