Case IH 2523 – UCM: F2 solenoid - circuit fault
Issue description
The onboard diagnostics have detected an electrical circuit malfunction (such as a short, open circuit, or abnormal resistance) related to the F2 synchronizer solenoid, which is responsible for engaging the F2 (often low or medium range) clutch in the transmission.
Applies to these machines
14 machines- Optum
- Puma 125
- Puma 165
- Puma 180
- Puma 195
- Puma 210
- Puma 225 CVX
- Magnum MX210
- Magnum MX230
- Magnum MX255
- Magnum MX285
- Magnum 210
- Magnum 220
- Maxxum Series
Check the cause
Verify that no external power supply is improperly connected, check for a faulty charging system, and ensure battery voltage is at normal operating levels
Disconnect the F2 synchronizer solenoid and measure the resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 2 (should be 8 to 11 Ohms)
Check for a short to positive voltage by disconnecting the solenoid connector, turning the ignition switch ON, and measuring the voltage between the connector pin and ground
Inspect the F2 solenoid connector and the UCM connectors for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or damage
If the solenoid, harness, and connectors are all functioning correctly, check the Universal Control Module (UCM) for faults
Repair steps
Rectify the Hardware Issue
Based on the diagnostic checks, replace the faulty F2 synchronizer solenoid, repair/replace the damaged wire harness, or replace the faulty connector.
Clear the Error Code
Once the physical repair is complete, clear the stored error codes from the UCM's EEPROM using the tractor's diagnostic menu (HC menu or H8 operation) without erasing the transmission calibration information.
Test Operation
Test the tractor's transmission system to ensure normal operation and verify that the 2523 code does not return.
