Case IH 2523 (517974.11) - DEC – Universal Control Module (UCM): F2 solenoid circuit fault
Issue description
The control module has detected an electrical anomaly in the circuit responsible for operating the F2 transmission synchronizer solenoid. The underlying condition is typically an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to positive voltage, or an internal failure (incorrect resistance) within the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause
Ensure no external power supply is improperly connected and verify that the tractor's charging system is functioning correctly
Inspect the F2 solenoid connector and the transmission wire harness for damaged wires, corrosion, or loose pins
Disconnect the F2 solenoid and measure the resistance across its terminals to determine if the coil has failed
Check the wiring harness between the solenoid and the UCM for a short to positive voltage or a short to ground
Repair steps
Locate and Disconnect
Turn off the ignition. Locate the F2 synchronizer solenoid on the transmission control valve block and disconnect its electrical connector.
Test the Solenoid
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 2 on the solenoid itself. The resistance should be approximately 10 Ohms (an acceptable range is typically 8 to 11 Ohms).
Replace Solenoid (If Necessary)
If the resistance is out of specification (open limit or shorted), remove the retaining hardware, extract the faulty F2 synchronizer solenoid, and install a new one.
Test the Wiring Harness (If Solenoid is Good)
If the solenoid tests within the 10 Ohm spec, the issue is likely in the harness. Disconnect the corresponding UCM harness connector (e.g., X-955).
Check for Voltage Shorts
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Measure the voltage between the harness connector pin for the F2 circuit and a known good ground. If voltage is indicated, there is a short to power in the harness. Repair or replace the wire harness as required.
Clear and Calibrate
Once the faulty component (solenoid or harness) has been repaired or replaced, reconnect all connectors. Use the diagnostic tool to clear the error code and test the transmission system for normal operation.
