Case IH 2524 (517971.11) - DEC – UCM: R1 solenoid - circuit fault
Issue description
The system has detected an electrical circuit malfunction (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or abnormal voltage/resistance) on the R1 synchronizer solenoid circuit.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Puma 165
- Puma 180
- Puma 195
- Puma 210
- Puma 225 CVX
- Magnum 210
Check the cause
Verify that no external power supply is improperly connected and that the tractor's charging system is functioning correctly, as voltage irregularities can trigger circuit faults.
Inspect the R1 solenoid connector for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture.
Check the wiring harness between the UCM and the R1 solenoid for opens, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.
Disconnect the R1 solenoid and measure the resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 2. It should read between 8 to 11 Ohms.
If the wiring, connectors, and solenoid all test within specification, verify the Universal Control Module (UCM) itself, as it may be faulty.
Repair steps
Power down the tractor and locate the R1 synchronizer solenoid on the transmission valve block.
Disconnect the 2-pin electrical connector from the R1 solenoid.
Perform a visual inspection of the wiring harness and the connector (Part # 291718A1). Repair or replace the connector if damaged.
Using a multimeter, test the resistance across the pins of the R1 solenoid.
If it fails the resistance test (not between 8 - 11 Ohms), remove the retaining hardware and extract the faulty R1 solenoid.
Install the replacement R1 solenoid and torque to OEM specifications.
Reconnect the electrical connector.
Turn the key on and use the diagnostic menu or electronic service tool to clear the stored error code from the UCM.
Test the system for normal operation by engaging the transmission to ensure the R1 synchronizer engages without logging a new fault.
