Case IH 2526 (519178.16) - DEC – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine Controller (ECPG): DEC: Lube Oil Pressure Sensor - Lube High Pressure
Issue description
The system has detected an abnormally high reading from the engine's lube oil pressure sensor. This indicates that the engine's lube oil pressure has exceeded the maximum allowable threshold for the current engine speed and temperature, or the sensor circuit is shorted high, causing the controller to read a falsely high pressure.
Applies to these machines
1 machine- MAXXUM T4E
Check the cause
Verify actual oil pressure using a mechanical pressure gauge (normal is 2.5 to 5 bar at rated speed, and at least 1 bar at low idle) to determine if the fault is mechanical or sensor-related.
Check engine oil viscosity to ensure it is correct for the operating conditions, as incorrect viscosity can cause abnormally high pressure readings.
Inspect the engine lube oil pressure sensor wiring and connectors for a 'shorted high' condition.
Test the sensor's resistance (ohms) at different operating temperatures to see if it is reading out of specification.
Inspect the oil pressure regulating valve to see if it is stuck closed, which would cause actual oil pressure to spike.
Repair steps
Replace lube oil pressure sensor
If mechanical pressure is normal but the sensor reading is high (sensor/circuit fault): Disconnect the battery, locate the lube oil pressure sensor on the engine block, and disconnect the wiring harness. Inspect for corrosion or shorts. Remove the faulty sending unit and install the new sensor, then reconnect the harness.
Service oil pressure regulating valve
If mechanical pressure is actually too high (mechanical fault): Drain the engine oil. Locate and remove the engine oil pressure regulating valve. Inspect the valve for binding, debris, or a failed spring. Replace the valve if necessary and refill the engine with the correct viscosity oil.
Clear codes and test
Clear the fault codes from the ECM and run the engine to verify the code does not return.
