Case IH 2541 (5937.04) - DEC – Transmission Control Module (TCM): Clutch B Pressure Transducer/Sensor Fault

Issue description

The system has detected that the signal wire is short-circuited to ground, or there is an open circuit in either the signal wire or the 5V supply wire. Because the controller cannot read the hydraulic pressure for Clutch B, the transmission may disable certain gears, default to a limp mode, or prevent movement to protect the driveline.

Check the cause

  1. Check Supply Voltage: Disconnect the sensor and turn the key to the ON position. Measure the voltage between Pin B and ground. You should see a steady 5V DC. If 0V, trace the supply wire back to the TCM for a break.

  2. Check Ground: Measure resistance between Pin A and the chassis ground. It should be near 0 ohms.

  3. Check Signal Wire: Test Pin C for continuity back to the TCM harness. Test Pin C against ground to ensure the wire hasn't rubbed through and shorted to the chassis.

  4. Inspect Connector: Look for pushed-out pins, water ingress, or corrosion inside the connector housing.

  5. If the wiring harness passes all tests, the internal circuitry of the Clutch B pressure sensor has failed (open circuit) and the sensor must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and apply the parking brake. Relieve residual hydraulic pressure by cycling the hydraulic remotes.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the transmission control valve block (usually on the right side of the transmission housing). Identify the Clutch B pressure sensor (refer to the valve block diagram in your specific model's service manual to distinguish it from Clutch A, C, D, etc.).

  3. Removal

    Disconnect the 3-pin electrical connector. Clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Use a deep socket or wrench to unthread the sensor. Have a rag ready to catch a small amount of hydraulic oil.

  4. Installation

    Install the new pressure transducer. Do not overtighten (refer to OEM torque specs, usually around 20-25 Nm).

  5. Reconnection

    Plug in the electrical connector, ensuring the weather seal is intact and it clicks into place.

  6. Calibration

    Start the tractor and check for leaks. Clear the fault code 2541 via the tractor's diagnostic display. Crucial Step: You must perform a transmission clutch calibration (specifically for Clutch B, though a full A-through-F calibration is recommended) so the TCM can learn the fill times and pressure curves of the new sensor.
