Case IH 2541 – UCM (User Control Module / Transmission Control Module): B clutch pressure transducer – open circuit or short circuit to ground

Issue description

This code indicates a failure in the electrical circuit for the transmission's B clutch pressure transducer. The system has detected that the sensor's signal is either completely lost (open circuit) or the 5V reference voltage is shorting directly to ground.

Applies to these machines

  • Optum
  • Case IH Puma Series (e.g., Puma 125, 130 CVX, 145, 150, 160, 165, 170, 180, 185 CVX, 195, 200, 210, 215, 220, 225 CVX, 230, 240)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the connector at the B clutch pressure transducer for moisture, corrosion, backed-out pins, or physical damage.

  2. Use a multimeter to check the wiring harness between the UCM and the transducer. Test for an open circuit in the signal wire and ensure the 5V reference circuit is not shorted to ground.

  3. Test the transducer itself; if wiring and connector are in good condition and the 5V reference is present, the fault is internal to the transducer.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Sensor

Locate the B clutch pressure transducer on the transmission control valve block.

  2. Disconnect and Remove

Disconnect the wiring harness from the transducer. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure if required by your specific model's manual, then unscrew the faulty transducer from the valve block.

  3. Install the New Sensor

Thread the new B clutch pressure transducer into the port and tighten to the torque specification listed in your model's service manual.

  4. Reconnect Wiring

Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

  5. Clear the Fault Code

The error code must be cleared from the UCM memory. This can be done using the tractor's instrument controller (HB menu) or steering controller (H8 menu) to clear stored EEPROM values/error codes, or via the EST diagnostic tool.

  6. Test Operation

Start the tractor and test the transmission system for normal operation. A transmission/clutch calibration may be required after replacing clutch pressure components.

Parts you might need

Exact part numbers vary heavily by the specific tractor's serial number (PIN) and transmission type (e.g., CVX vs. PowerShift). Always verify the exact part number with your Case IH dealer using your machine's Product Identification Number (PIN) before ordering, as transducer threads and calibration ranges can differ between the A and B clutch circuits.
