Case IH 2542 (123.03) - DEC – Transmission Control Module (TCM): A clutch pressure transducer – short circuit to 5V

The transmission controller is detecting an abnormally high voltage on the signal circuit for the Clutch A pressure sensor, meaning the signal wire has shorted directly to the 5-volt reference supply.

   Inspect the transmission wiring harness for a short circuit to the 5V supply (Pin A: Sensor Ground Black/White wire 60, Pin B: Trans Sensor Supply 5V Green wire 7525, Pin C: Clutch Pressure Signal Orange wire 7775).

   Check the sensor connector and the UCM/TCM connector for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture that could bridge the 5V supply to the signal wire.

   Disconnect the sensor to test it. If the fault code changes from a short to 5V (2542) to an open circuit/short to ground (2540), the wiring is likely intact and the sensor has failed internally.

   If the wiring and sensor test fine but the fault remains, download the correct level of software to the UCM. If the fault still recurs, the UCM itself may be faulty.

   Relieve Pressure

   Ensure the engine is off and all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the transmission circuits before removing any valves or sensors.

   Harness Repair

   If a short circuit is found in the wiring harness during diagnostics, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the harness as required.

   Sensor Replacement

   If the sensor is internally shorted, locate the Clutch A Pressure Sensor on the right-hand side of the transmission control valve block. Unplug the electrical connector, unthread the faulty transducer, and install the new sensor.

   Clear and Test

   Once the repair is complete, clear the error codes via the tractor's diagnostic display and test the system for normal operation by engaging the transmission.
