Case IH 2558 – Universal Control Module (UCM) or Central Control Unit (CCU): Hydro 1 solenoid – short circuit to 12V

The control module detects that the circuit for the Hydro 1 transmission solenoid is shorted to a 12-volt power source, preventing the module from properly regulating the hydrostatic control of the transmission.

   Verify the charging system is functioning correctly and ensure no external power supply is improperly connected, which could cause voltage spikes.

   Trace the wiring harness from the UCM/CCU to the Hydro 1 solenoid. Look for rubbed, melted, or pinched wires causing a short circuit to a 12V source.

   Inspect the electrical connector at the solenoid for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.

   Test the Hydro 1 solenoid for internal faults using a standard resistance check across the terminals.

   If the wiring harness, connectors, and solenoid all test perfectly, test the Universal Control Module (UCM) for faults.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the Hydro 1 solenoid. Depending on your specific model, it is generally located either in the bell housing or inside the transmission side cover.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the Hydro 1 solenoid. Inspect the connector for damage.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short to 12V is found in the harness during diagnostics, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

   Replace Solenoid

   If the solenoid is internally shorted or faulty, remove the retaining hardware, extract the old Hydro 1 solenoid, and install the new OEM replacement.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector securely.

   Clear and Test

   Once the physical repair is rectified, use a diagnostic tool to clear the error code 2558 from the UCM/CCU. Test the tractor's transmission system to verify normal operation.
